چکیده

Acid-base properties of excipient surfaces have been studied by photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) in the visible absorption range using seven acid-base indicators. The acid strength (Ho) of each excipient was determined from the PA spectral patterns of the indicators. The Ho values of silica-alumina, silica-magnesia and crystalline cellulose were determined to be between 3.3 and -3 .0, between 4.8 and 2.0, and between 4.8 and 3.3, respectively. In the cases of some excipients, the acid strength measured by PAS was weaker than the value which was measured from the color changes of the indicators on the surface of the excipients in benzene solution. These differences are ascribed to water adsorption on the surface during PAS sample preparation. In the case of crystalline cellulose, the hydrogen bonding network was so tight in benzene solution that the indicators could not enter the network.

Prediction of interlaminar shear strength of a thermally aged carbon/epoxy composite material by Fourier transform infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy.

Photoacoustic spectroscopy was used to predict the interlaminar shear strength of a carbon/epoxy composite. Samples were artificially aged by exposing the samples to elevated temperatures in an air environment. Short-beam shear tests were performed to determine mechanically the interlaminar shear strength of the samples. Photoacoustic spectra of the samples were also collected and compared to m...

Photoacoustic correlation spectroscopy and its application to low-speed flow measurement.

A photoacoustic correlation technique, inspired by its optical counterpart-the fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS)-was tested for the first time, to our knowledge, to demonstrate the feasibility of low-speed flow measurement based on photoacoustic signal detection. A pulsed laser was used to probe the flow of light-absorbing beads. A photoacoustic correlation system of 0.8 s temporal re...

Fast photoacoustic-guided depth-resolved Raman spectroscopy: a feasibility study.

In this Letter, photoacoustic-guided Raman spectroscopy (PARS) is proposed for a fast depth-resolved Raman measurement with accurate depth localization. The approach was experimentally demonstrated to receive both photoacoustic and Raman signals from a three-layer agar phantom based on a developed synergic photoacoustic-Raman probe, showing strong depth correlation and achieving magnitude of fa...

Design and Application of a Photoacoustic Sensor for Monitoring the Laser Generated Stress Waves in Optical Fiber

Measurement of stress transients generated by a 400ns pulsed HF laser in an infrared fluoride glass fiber has been made using fast time – response piezoelectric film transducer. Acoustic signals up to 12 mV with frequencies ranging in megahertz generated by 21 mJ laser pulse when passed through the fiber axis in the linear region. It is shown that useful information such as onset of non - linea...

Methodological Comparison between a Novel Automatic Sampling System for Gas Chromatography versus Photoacoustic Spectroscopy for Measuring Greenhouse Gas Emissions under Field Conditions

Trace gases such as nitrous oxide (N2O), methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide (CO2) are climate-related gases, and their emissions from agricultural livestock barns are not negligible. Conventional measurement systems in the field (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR); photoacoustic system (PAS)) are not sufficiently sensitive to N2O. Laser-based measurement systems are highly accurate, ...
